Come inside Rachel & Jack’s in Marrickville

The party had stopped

Rachel & Jack are a vivacious and fun couple with impossibly cute kids. But their long, single-level terrace in Marrickville didn’t exude the same energy. It was tired, and in need of a refresh to keep apace with their young family’s life.

“We picked Tommico because we felt they understood us, and the feeling we were hoping to bring back to our place. There was this sense of comfort and trust and we believed they were not trying to upsell but just deliver the best outcome possible, which in our view obviously showed in the end result.”

It began with beers

In our chats with Rach & Jack, we settled on a full house renovation – to open it up and modernise it. We started with the dark heart of the home, relocating walls for a larger kitchen and dining area. Newly added double skylights flooded this space with Vitamin D. Each Friday, we’d recap over beers with the owners on their deck.

“We’re social creatures, which Tommico really responded too. For instance, we love our new kitchen-island-cum-dining-table. Our whole family hovers around it.”

The curveball

Every project has one. For Rach & Jack’s, it was their baby on the way. This meant sticking to our timings was very very vital. To achieve this, we did heaps of prep work to make sure all the materials had arrived on-site before beginning, nipping any supply chain issues in the bud.

It ended with wine

In addition to the new kitchen, we polished all the floors and gave fresh life to the bathroom – with a new skylight, airier layout, and rainfall shower. Final details like a warm wooden vanity, white handmade tiles for the kitchen splashback, and a fancy wine fridge made the whole home glow.

“Steve & Lisa were so friendly and attentive throughout everything. Their trades were professional and tidy too. We got to know them all by name.”
